INTRODUCTION TO TROPICAL MYCOLOGY

₦3,500.00

The wide application of fungi in many fields of study and their importance to life necessitated the writing of this book. Fungi are extremely important to humans, animals, and plants. Our goal is to provide a balanced introduction of the study of fungi with particular emphasis on tropical fungi.

This textbook is written in simple and understandable English language and it is also splashed with many photographic illustrations to reinforce the learning process. The general organization of the text has been outlined to provide a more logical flow of topics with updated information and emphasis on tropical fungi in one single volume. While this book is intended as an introduction to the subject, we have attempted to incorporate some of our practical knowledge, since we have acquired experience working in the area of mycology as either research and field workers or as university teachers and examiners. In particular, the tropical mushrooms documented in this book have never been published elsewhere. The photographs of mushrooms in this text are based on 30 years of visual observations and documentations at ENPOST Farms (1983 – 2013). It should be mentioned that the continued deforestation and chemicalization of agriculture especially with the increasing application of herbicides for weed control have resulted in continuous decrease in the quantity and quality of mushrooms especially in the tropics. Hence, the urgent need for documentation and preservation of mushrooms as important bioresources.
